October is a gorgeous month in our historic neighborhood where the fall activities are as plentiful as the colorful leaves.
The inaugural HAPNA-Atkins Porter Scarecrow Classic – 5K Run/Walk is our big news. Special thanks go to our sponsors, Henry County Medical Center and RE/MAX Cornerstone Real Estate. Special thanks to neighbor, Jay Hosford, our fabulous race coordinator. Register today at EventBrite.com for this fun, October 29th event.
Our very own, “5K Katie the Scarecrow” and her dog, Happy, are gracing the west side of the square promoting our run/walk. Plenty of creative neighbors worked to create Katie for “Scarecrows on the Square,” sponsored by the Downtown Paris Association.
Thanks to neighbors and former neighbors who came together to provide a form for Katie (Dave and Sandy Winters), her lovely head and headband (Lisa Rhodes and granddaughters), silky hands (Jocelyn Rosenzweig and Connor), trendy pants (John Nichols), running shoes, signage and placement (Kim Martin), her snazzy wig, shirt, nail polish and straw bales (Susan Jones) and her fabulous dog (Secret Odom). If you haven’t been downtown, don’t miss 5K Katie and her scarecrow buddies around the square. Go on Fridays at lunch and enjoy Noon on the Square – live music and lunch options, sponsored by Commercial Bank.
If you look at the water bottle in Katie’s hand, you’ll find our fabulous, new logo. Our talented neighbor, Jay Odom, did a magnificent job creating a logo that honors Atkins-Porter School, our beloved shade trees and our neighborhood’s interesting architecture.
And for all of our new neighbors, here’s a valuable tip. Halloween is a ton of fun here, but don’t get caught without plenty of candy. And when we say plenty, we mean 1000 pieces of candy. Yes, it is a line item in your budget, but in return, you’ll get the cutest little trick or treaters on the planet beginning at 5 pm on Monday afternoon, October 31.
Here are Halloween photos and the scarecrow/5K pic. Drew said if you want a runner tor just go to the stock photo library.
